Anax and Cymede & Kynaios and Tiro rulings
Anax and Cymede & Kynaios and Tiro’s last ability goes on the stack and resolves before the spell that caused it to trigger. It resolves even if that spell is countered or otherwise left the stack.
Anax and Cymede & Kynaios and Tiro’s last ability will trigger only once per spell, even if that spell targets Anax and Cymede & Kynaios and Tiro multiple times.
Anax and Cymede & Kynaios and Tiro’s last ability won’t trigger when a copy of a spell is created on the stack targeting Anax and Cymede & Kynaios and Tiro or when a spell’s targets are changed to include Anax and Cymede & Kynaios and Tiro.
Playtest cards aren’t legal for play in any tournament format other than Mystery Booster Limited formats. On the other hand, we expect they will spice up a wide variety of non-tournament games (as long as everyone’s on the same page about using them!).
Playtest cards use a modified version of game symbols, such as
and
. These modified symbols should be treated as the standard symbols during play.
For many playtest cards, you’ll need to make a generous assumption that basic game rules would be updated to allow them to work. The Mystery Booster 2 Playtest Card Notes section (reproduced here in individual Gatherer rulings) provides guidance for fitting these cards into the existing rules structure.
Anax and Cymede & Kynaios and Tiro keyword rules
Vigilance Rule 702.20
Vigilance is a static ability that modifies the rules for the declare attackers step.
Attacking doesn’t cause creatures with vigilance to tap. (See rule , “Declare Attackers Step.”)
Multiple instances of vigilance on the same creature are redundant.
First strike Rule 702.7
First strike is a static ability that modifies the rules for the combat damage step. (See rule , “Combat Damage Step.”)
If at least one attacking or blocking creature has first strike or double strike (see rule ) as the combat damage step begins, the only creatures that assign combat damage in that step are those with first strike or double strike. After that step, instead of proceeding to the end of combat step, the phase gets a second combat damage step. The only creatures that assign combat damage in that step are the remaining attackers and blockers that had neither first strike nor double strike as the first combat damage step began, as well as the remaining attackers and blockers that currently have double strike. After that step, the phase proceeds to the end of combat step.
Giving first strike to a creature without it after combat damage has already been dealt in the first combat damage step won’t preclude that creature from assigning combat damage in the second combat damage step. Removing first strike from a creature after it has already dealt combat damage in the first combat damage step won’t allow it to also assign combat damage in the second combat damage step (unless the creature has double strike).
Multiple instances of first strike on the same creature are redundant.
