Card text

Flying, lifelink

You may play lands and cast spells from among cards in your graveyard you've surveilled this turn. If you cast a spell this way, you pay life equal to its mana value rather than paying its mana cost.

Most thought the Dimir had been wiped out. This suited the Dimir perfectly.

Eye of Duskmantle rulings

  • “Cards in your graveyard you’ve surveilled this turn” includes cards you put into your graveyard while surveilling. It does not include cards you saw while surveilling, left on top of your library, and then put into your graveyard later that turn by other means.

  • You may only cast spells this way by paying the appropriate amount of life. You may not pay their normal costs and may not pay any other alternative costs. You may still pay for additional costs, such as kicker costs. If the spell has mandatory additional costs, you must pay those.

  • If you cast a spell with X generic mana in its mana cost this way, the only legal choice for X is 0.

Eye of Duskmantle keyword rules

Flying Rule 702.9

Flying is an evasion ability.

A creature with flying can’t be blocked except by creatures with flying and/or reach. A creature with flying can block a creature with or without flying. (See rule , “Declare Blockers Step,” and rule , “Reach.”)

Multiple instances of flying on the same creature are redundant.

Lifelink Rule 702.15

Lifelink is a static ability.

Damage dealt by a source with lifelink causes that source’s controller, or its owner if it has no controller, to gain that much life (in addition to any other results that damage causes). See rule .

If an object changes zones before an effect causes it to deal damage, its last known information is used to determine whether it had lifelink.

The lifelink rules function no matter what zone an object with lifelink deals damage from.

If multiple sources with lifelink deal damage at the same time, they cause separate life gain events (see rules –10).

Multiple instances of lifelink on the same object are redundant.
