The Destined Warrior rulings

  • The cost reduction applies only to generic mana in the total cost of Cleric, Rogue, Warrior, and Wizard spells you cast.

  • Some cards refer to you having a "full party." This is true if the number of creatures in your party is four.

  • To determine the total cost of a spell, start with the mana cost or alternative cost you're paying (such as a flashback cost), add any cost increases (such as kicker costs), then apply any cost reductions (such as that of The Destined Warrior's fourth ability). The mana value of the spell is determined by only its mana cost, no matter what the total cost to cast that spell was.

  • If a creature has more than one party creature type, and there are multiple ways to count that creature that could result in a different number of creatures in your party, the highest such number is used. For example, if you control a Cleric and a Cleric Wizard, the number of creatures in your party is two. You can't choose to have it be just one by counting the Cleric Wizard first as a Cleric.

  • The cost reduction applies only once to any spell you cast that's a Cleric, Rogue, Warrior, or Wizard. A spell with more than one of these subtypes will still have its cost reduced by just one generic mana.

  • To determine "the number of creatures in your party," check whether you control a Cleric, whether you control a Rogue, whether you control a Warrior, and whether you control a Wizard. The number is the total number of those checks to which you answered yes. Each creature you control can be counted for only one of those checks.

The Destined Warrior keyword rules

Vigilance Rule 702.20

Vigilance is a static ability that modifies the rules for the declare attackers step.

Attacking doesn’t cause creatures with vigilance to tap. (See rule , “Declare Attackers Step.”)

Multiple instances of vigilance on the same creature are redundant.

First strike Rule 702.7

First strike is a static ability that modifies the rules for the combat damage step. (See rule , “Combat Damage Step.”)

If at least one attacking or blocking creature has first strike or double strike (see rule ) as the combat damage step begins, the only creatures that assign combat damage in that step are those with first strike or double strike. After that step, instead of proceeding to the end of combat step, the phase gets a second combat damage step. The only creatures that assign combat damage in that step are the remaining attackers and blockers that had neither first strike nor double strike as the first combat damage step began, as well as the remaining attackers and blockers that currently have double strike. After that step, the phase proceeds to the end of combat step.

Giving first strike to a creature without it after combat damage has already been dealt in the first combat damage step won’t preclude that creature from assigning combat damage in the second combat damage step. Removing first strike from a creature after it has already dealt combat damage in the first combat damage step won’t allow it to also assign combat damage in the second combat damage step (unless the creature has double strike).

Multiple instances of first strike on the same creature are redundant.

Menace Rule 702.111

Menace is an evasion ability.

A creature with menace can’t be blocked except by two or more creatures. (See rule , “Declare Blockers Step.”)

Multiple instances of menace on the same creature are redundant.
